Privacy Policy

The Short Version: We collect minimal data to make the app work. We don't sell your data. We don't track you across the web. We're too busy finding correlations between cheese consumption and moon phases.

1. Who We Are

Stupid Correlations ("we," "our," "us") operates the Stupid Correlations mobile application and website (stupidcorrelations.app). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: If you create an account for premium features, we collect your email address and authentication credentials (managed securely through Firebase)
  • Payment Information: Handled entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your credit card details
  • Support Requests: If you contact us, we keep records of our communication

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Identifier: A random, anonymous ID used solely to enforce free tier limits. This is not linked to your identity
  • Generated Content: The correlations and charts you create are temporarily processed on our servers. We don't permanently store your generated images unless you explicitly save them to our cloud service
  • Usage Analytics: Basic app usage data (which features are popular, crash reports) to improve the service

2.3 Information We Don't Collect

  • Your location (we don't need it)
  • Your contacts (definitely don't need those)
  • Your photos (unless you upload one for a custom chart)
  • Your browsing history outside our app
  • Any biometric data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Generate your correlation charts (that's literally the point)
  • Enforce free tier usage limits fairly
  • Process premium subscriptions
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Send important service updates (rarely)
What We Don't Do: We don't sell your data and we don't share your information with data brokers. The website does carry Google AdSense advertising — see section 4.5 below for what that means for cookies and personalization.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

4.1 RevenueCat

Manages premium subscriptions. Receives anonymized purchase data from app stores. Their Privacy Policy

4.2 Firebase (Google)

Provides authentication and basic analytics. Their Privacy Policy

4.3 Google Cloud Storage

Stores generated images for sharing. Data is encrypted at rest. Their Privacy Policy

4.4 Neon (Database)

Stores premium user account information. Their Privacy Policy

4.5 Google AdSense (website only)

The website at stupidcorrelations.app uses Google AdSense to serve advertising. AdSense and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to deliver relevant ads, measure ad performance, and combat fraud. Some of this data may be used to build a personalized advertising profile under Google's terms.

  • European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland visitors are shown a consent prompt (Google's Funding Choices) before any personalized ads are served. You can withdraw consent at any time via the ⓘ icon on any ad.
  • Other visitors can opt out of personalized advertising at Google's Ads Settings.
  • Our mobile apps do not run AdSense — this section applies only to the website.

5. Data Retention

  • Generated Images: Temporary images are deleted within 24 hours. Saved images are kept until you delete them or your account
  • Device Identifiers: Retained for 30 days of inactivity, then deleted
  • Account Data: Kept until you delete your account
  • Support Communications: Retained for 2 years for quality assurance

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your data
  • Correction: Update inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request we delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Portability: Receive your data in a common format
  • Objection: Opt out of certain processing
  • Restriction: Limit how we use your data

7. Data Security

We protect your data using:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Encryption at rest for stored data
  • Access controls limiting who can view data
  • Regular security reviews

No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you as required by law.

8. Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the site to function (session management)
  • Analytics Cookies: Anonymous usage statistics to improve the site
  • Advertising Cookies: Set by Google AdSense and its partners to deliver and measure ads, and (with your consent in regions where required) to personalize them. See section 4.5 above for details.

You can block any of these in your browser settings, opt out of personalized ads at Google's Ads Settings, or — for EEA/UK/Swiss visitors — withdraw consent via the ⓘ icon on any ad on the site.

9. Children's Privacy

Stupid Correlations is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Our services are hosted in the United States. If you're accessing from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US, where data protection laws may differ from your country. By using our service, you consent to this transfer.

For EU users: We rely on standard contractual clauses for international transfers where required.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used
  • Right to delete personal information
  • Right to opt-out of sale of personal information (we don't sell data, so this doesn't apply)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do:

  • We'll update the "Last updated" date
  • For significant changes, we'll notify you through the App
  • Previous versions will be available upon request
